A few months ago I scored maybe 1.3 yards of my favourite Liberty tana lawn print from Ebay and I’ve been trying to decide what to do with it ever since. I thought Vogue 8650 might be a good fit but now I’m not sure.

Ignoring the weird pillow case and quilting scrap fabric I used which is stiffer than the lawn, I’m still not sure if it will work, even belted. It’s a little blousy around the bust because of the raglan construction but it’s a little tight at the waist. I think I might have to lengthen it too but I’m not sure if I’ll have enough fabric for that. Maybe it’s just not right for my shape. Thoughts?

It could just be the contrasting fabric, but I feel like the sleeves are kind of a weird length…maybe shorter? I like it with the belt and really like the detail of the neckline. I think it would look nice if you added some length, but it doesn’t need it. You’re such a talented little seamstress. Despite being a pillowcase, the colour is very nice on you.

I think what might be bugging you is the diagonal sleeve seam – it’s a little tricky for a lot of people to pull off because it makes the shoulders appear smaller and brings the focus down to the bust. The pleats are also adding to the focus on the bust. The print of your fabric will help hide some of that seam detail but it is still going to add bulk to your bustline.
You look great in v-necks or wide scoop-necks. I think that a pattern that is the reverse of yours – the pleats on the sleeves and none on the bust – with a wider neckline towards the shoulder points would be really nice on you and look good with your fabric.
